For Students:

Learn about—and participate in—policy advocacy.

The MIT Washington Office enjoys working with MIT undergraduates, graduate students and post-docs who are interested in learning about and/or influencing policy. We also work with MIT student groups on policy advocacy and offer internships that are open to all students – not just those from MIT.

The MIT Washington Office Internship Program

An internship in the MIT Washington Office provides a chance to work side-by-side with the staff to learn about policy and advocacy from the inside.

Please note that we prefer MIT students for summer internships. However, our interns during the academic year are usually from other colleges and universities.

MIT Science Policy Initiative

The Science Policy Initiative (SPI) at MIT was founded in 2007 by a group of students who recognized the importance of providing first-hand policy experience to MIT students. The MIT Washington Office provides background to SPI members on the policy process and on current issues. We also work with SPI to arrange two trips to Washington each academic year, one focused on the executive branch and one on Congress.

MIT Technology and Policy Program (TPP)

Students interested in policy may want to check out TPP. Through its two-year Master of Science Program, TPP prepares students for leadership in government and industry and educates students to address important technological issues confronting society.
